Can I order online and pick up at a store?
Yes! If you can get to Red Hill in Brisbane you are welcome to arrange a time to visit the studio and collect your order. Packages can also be securely picked up contact-free.
-
I broke my favourite ceramic mug, how can I fix it?
Honestly, it is not advised to glue together anything that is going to be used for food or drinks and that is going to be washed repeatedly.
If you are happy to use your mug to hold pencils or coins or something non-food related then its fine to use superglue to stick it back together.
If you want your mug, or other item, to stay food safe

How do I look after my handmade ceramics?
Everything made by Rhianon Rose is high fired stoneware. You can put it in the microwave (understanding that all ceramics do get hot in the microwave). You can also put it in the dishwasher - in fact that is probably safer than hand-washing given the chance of human fumbles at the sink...
Treat your ceramics as you would any treasured piece of pottery - ie use it daily, make it a special part of your life and take care not to drop it on a hard floor or benchtop. Any pottery will break if you bang it hard, but otherwise its pretty durable and can last a lifetime.

Why do you make ceramics that are about happiness?
I grew up in a Buddhist community where there was a strong focus on the value of fostering happiness for ourselves and others. I then worked for a long time as an Art Therapist and counsellor - being passionate about improving mental health and wellbeing for people experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage. For me, art is about more than appearances, it is about meaning. Art can be powerful in changing moods, provoking new thinking and bringing people out of their frame of reference to experinece something new and inspiring.
My ceramic art is an extention of my life philosophy that the things we have in our lives should bring us joy and spread happiness to those around us.
And making ceramics that are about happiness makes me happy. I think about the theme as I make each piece, reflecting and inspiring myself in the process. It makes me profoundly happy when people share that inspiration and enjoy something that I have made.

How do you create the designs on your pottery?
Every piece I make is hand-formed, hand-painted and hand-carved. I use a range of techniques including sgraffito (carving through colour), mishima (inlay), hand-made paper resist stencils, slip texturing, wax resist and many more. Feel free to ask questions, check out my videos on instagram or ask for an online or in-person class!
